Hello January 2026

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” Marcel Proust

Welcome to 2026. I’ve sat with this writing for a while, unsure of what to send out to you—words of wisdom, consolation, or lightness. In the end, I return to the yoga teachings to share what has been working for me.

With the new year comes the potential of resolutions. The willingness to transform yourself is a beautiful thing. It asks for time: time to perceive what’s going on, to recognize what might shift, and to choose something to work with.

Lately, I’ve been focusing on Standing Forward Fold (Uttanasana). Traditionally practiced with straight legs and feet together, hinging at the hips, this posture stretches the hamstrings, spreads the entire back body, increases circulation, stimulates digestion, strengthens the legs, and calms the mind and nervous system as the head lowers. It sounds like a panacea—if you can get into it. But it’s not an easy pose to do, or to stay in.

Uttanasana invites awareness. Stiffness, compression, and discomfort become obvious. To remain in the pose, you adapt: bending the knees, widening the stance, lifting the torso slightly, supporting the hands, or even sitting with straight legs to change the angle. These physical adjustments allow you to stay longer. Then the inner journey begins—discovering quietness, the movement of the breath, and your own resilience.

Like all things new, this year offers an opportunity to look with fresh eyes. I’m looking forward to journeying with you.
